Chapter 12: Brant's Visit

Oh yes, did I have unfinished business.

Genesis had stated that the alien I'd caught her with had parents and a family. I planned on giving whatever called themselves his parents a piece of my mind.

After ringing the bell furiously for several minutes, another green skinned, bug eyed freak came to the door to greet me. I was not surprised to see him wearing a stained lab coat. When I knocked he had probably been burrowed away in some lab, working on his part in destroying all humans.

He introduced himself as "Dr. Severn" when he greeted me. Obviously he must be filling the role of 'father' in the family.

I could see where the freak I caught with my daughter got his "good looks". Damn aliens all look alike.

When I explained I was Genesis' father, he seemed to realize something was amiss and asked if I would step into their den to speak, so as not to disturb the rest of his family.

And their den looked little different from a den you might find in the home of any ordinary human family. From the stacks of homework scattered around, I gathered that they had more than one spawn running about.

'Dr. Severn' said that his son had mentioned Genesis many times, and that she had even stopped over once or twice as a child. He told me he found her a brilliant little girl and that I must be a very proud father.

Obviously they have been plotting to corrupt (or mind meld or whatever it is they do) Genesis for quite some time.

He wasn't quite so relaxed and friendly with me once I started telling him about just what I'd caught his 'son' doing.

I explained to him exactly what had been going on when I returned home. I not sure what sort of concept of 'good behaviour' and 'bad behaviour' they have on whatever planet or asteroid they're from, but what the little freak was up to in my home was definitely bad behaviour.

I tried to phrase it a bit more tactfully than that though.

At first the good doctor tried to dismiss it with a 'kids will be kids' explanation. Until I pointed out that this is not the sort of thing Genesis does on her own.

Finally he dismissed the whole topic, saying that he would talk to his son about it and that the discussion was over. Not the sort final answer I wanted, but I would have to be happy with it.

Then I asked him to keep his alien spawn away from my darling daughter.

The... the... alien then had the gall to question my parenting skills!

He stated that if I'd been a better parent I wouldn't have left my daughter home alone to lure his son into wildly inappropriate behaviour, as his son would never initiate something like that on his own.

No one waves a finger at me, doubts my parenting skills, or claims my Genesis is anything less than the angel she is. And I let the alien freak know it.

I warned him that his son had best stay away from my daughter...

Or else.

Dismiss my concerns with a wave of his hand, will he?

The alien asked if I needed assistance with finding the door. I assured him, I could find my way out. Damned if I accept any sort of 'assistance' from him; I'd probably never see daylight again.

I wish I could us away from here; where there's one alien there's always more. They multiply faster than rabbits. Genesis would hate me for life, though, if we moved. She has her heart set on living in the same place all through high school. Hmm... I'll have to speak with the headmaster. Maybe there is a different school she can transfer to, to get away from these things.

Chapter 11: Brant's Version

It had been another long day on base. The generals and their "special guests" were still about, requiring extra guards and extra protection. While I'd love to know what they were discussing behind sealed doors, I'm a soldier not a scientist. It would probably all sound like stereo instructions to me. I was just glad to receive word that I could head home early. I could finally spend some time with my little girl; I'd been gone so much these past few weeks.

As I came up the steps, the sounds of gunfire and car tires reached my ears. Ah, a good spy movie, and a recent one from the sound of it. My darling daughter had asked to have some of her friends over to study, but if she was watching a movie, they must have already left. Genesis would never neglect her studies for entertainment.

At least she wouldn't without some serious coercion.

I couldn't believe it. Aliens. Green skinned, bug eyed, antennae waving freaks. I wasn't aware there were any of those in town. I never would have moved here if there were. They'd over-run the town outside the military base and now they were trying to establish a foothold in the quaint little village I had chosen to call our home. And worse....

one of them was making free with the person of my daughter.

I wasn't going to stand for this in my own house, and I let them know it. Loudly. With a few terms I usually saved for the bathtub when it broke.

They sprung apart like I'd thrown cold water on them. Not giving the alien interloper time to start talking (some of them have the ability to hypnotize you with their words. Obviously a power he'd used on my poor daughter) I immediately started questioning him on what he was doing there, along with giving him my opinion of his person and his lineage.

My darling Genesis looked more than a little shocked. I suppose she was still a bit stunned, having been brainwashed and manhandled by this interstellar reject. What did she see in this thing?

The bug-eyed freak took poorly to the lecture I rained down upon his head about proper manners and behavior.

I realized it was probably pointless. Do these things even have parents, or do they spawn as children from some sort of amorphous pod?

Regardless, they're obviously trying to blend in by trying to be 'normal' families. Normal families with abnormal powers they use to flood society with more of their kind. No wonder Strangetown is rife with them.

Oh, this one seems polite enough, trying to offer an explanation and an apology for what I'd witnessed. Obviously trying to use those alien powers of 'persuasion' again.

I'm made of stronger fibre than that; I'm not going to fall for any alien superpowers. I gave him a few more choice words and told him to remove his bug eyed visage from my home.

As he stormed off, my dear daughter rushed over to me, trying to explain and make amends.

As much as I hated to bring up the memories of her wonderful mother, my beloved Evey, I had to remind Genesis of the danger these aliens presented. Had she forgotten her mother had been studying the captured technology of these creatures when that horrible accident had taken her from us? How could she bring herself to associate with one of them in such an intimate way?

She explained that she had invited her friends over to study, but only the alien -- "Spencer" she called him -- had showed up. Her other friends had called and cancelled. No doubt influenced by his alien powers... though I didn't mention this to Genesis. I wouldn't want her to think less of her friends for having been manipulated.

My dear daughter had never meant for anything to happen and said that they had studied like good kids. She even had finished homework she could show me. And she tried to explain that this Spencer wasn't like the aliens I described. That he was nice and had a family and went to school just like rest of her friends.

She may have been horribly used and manipulated by alien brainwaves, but I could never stay mad at my darling daughter when she pouted at me like that.

Hugging her, I told her I forgave her. I couldn't blame her for something not her fault. I did tell her she was forbidden to see this freak... er Spencer again. I stopped short of telling her not to have anything to do with any of her friends who are also friends with this alien. I wouldn't want to leave her completely friendless.

With a fatherly kiss, I sent her off to bed...

Because I still had unfinished business.

Chapter 11: Spencer's Version

Well Book, here I was wondering when I'd get a chance to see Genesis again, and a few days later she calls me up asking if I want to come over and study. Allyn and Carl are coming over too. We've all got semester tests coming up and they wanted to hit the books.

Hey, I wasn't about to say "No" to a chance to hang with Genesis again. No way. So I trekked on over to her place. Carl was supposed to pick up Allyn, but when I got to Genesis' place it didn't look like they were there yet.

Genesis came down to greet me and told me she was real I was able to make it. Her dog gave me a funny look and apparently decided I wasn't worth chewing on.

After her dog had stopped staring at me, I showed Genesis just how much I'd missed seeing her. From her response, I think she missed me too, Book.

Genesis already had dinner for everyone in the oven, which I thought was pretty cool. She cooks way better than I do. Unfortunately, Allyn and Carl couldn't make it. Allyn called and said she and Carl had gotten 'distracted'. Distracted? Yeah, right. Well, Carl was probably a little distracted when Allyn got done with him. *heh*

We had a some time to hit the books before dinner was ready. With the exception of the math, all the studying seemed pretty easy for once. Or was it just because it was Genesis I was studying with?

Genesis tried to grill me about the classes I was taking and stuff during dinner, but I did a pretty good job of avoiding the subject. I don't think she's be too interested in me if she knew the size of the homework stack I was hiding at home. Smart girls like her usually don't go for the dumb kids. Not that I'm dumb or anything. School's just really boring... and kinda hard sometimes (that math ya know).

She started asking me about what subject we should study after dinner, and I kind of suggested we do something a little more fun instead. Maybe like dancing.

Genesis is great at dancing, just like I figured she would be. Girls always are. She was really tearing up the rug to the music.

Not like I'm necessarily a bad dancer. Not anymore at least. I've gotten a lot better since that incident with Sir Bricky during the my birthday party.

Well the DJ started playing some real slow music Book, so I pulled Genesis in for a little slow dancing. It felt so awesome, holding Genesis like that.

But after a little bit, I did have to... ah... check to make sure she still wasn't bruised from all that falling on the ice.

Boy was I surprised when Genesis started doing a little searching for my back pocket as well.

She was real close to finding it Book, but sure hoped she kept searching. *smirk*

Next thing I know, Genesis is kissing me and I'm hearing music and fireworks and all sorts of stuff all over again.

I guess watching Mom and Dad get all kissy and smoochy when I was little kinda rubbed off. Like father, like son even.

I really didn't want to stop, but you can only go without air for so long. That and the DJ started playing these annoying commercials, which kinda killed the mood. I could've stayed like that, holding and kissing Genesis, all night.

You know what Book?

I think I'm love.

Geez, does Genesis feel the same way?

Well, we turned off the radio and settled down on the couch to watch some TV. Some spy flick was playing on cable, so we started watching that. After a bit though, I asked Genesis if she maybe wanted to scoot a little closer and snuggle. She wasn't real sure, and I was like 'no pressure' or anything but did say I though she'd enjoy the movie a whole lot more if she did.

Yeah, the movie was a lot nicer when we were snuggling, Book.

And after a while we weren't even paying attention to the movie at all. Which was pretty awesome...

Except we were also a little too occupied to notice that Genesis' dad came home early. She'd told me he'd been working late on some super secret project the past couple weeks and she figured he'd be working late again tonight.

Turns out she was wrong.

Boy are we busted, Book.
